Description

The Association of Independent Financial Advisers is the representative body for the professional advice community.  Representing over 80% of all IFAs, AIFA works to ensure a more profitable business environment for its members.  The trade body lobbies politicians, policy makers, and other stakeholders in Brussels, Westminster and Whitehall, and across the regulatory spectrum.

The role of Policy Director is central to the success of the organisation.  Leading in the development of the Association's policy, critically analysing legislative and regulatory proposals, writing responses and drafting member communications.

The Policy Director is responsible for the leadership and development of AIFA's policy team: experts in investment, life and pensions, and mortgage and general insurance regulation.  

The Policy Director will manage key stakeholder relationships within the public policy and regulatory bodies and with consumer groups.

The Policy Director reports to the Director General and is a key member of AIFA's leadership team.

The post demands a person of sound judgement and highly developed analytical skills combined with political and commercial awareness. A person at ease in industry and government circles is required. The person must be comfortable mixing on a social as well as business level. In addition, the post-holder must demonstrate:
 
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and compliance framework within the financial services industry
  • Sound technical and practical knowledge of the financial services intermediary sector
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in dealing with European regulatory affairs.


The role offers an attractive salary and benefits package and is based in AIFA's City offices. Travel within the UK and to Brussels on a regular basis is an essential part of the role.
